SCALING AND ROOT PLANING
Often called a “deep cleaning”, this non-surgical procedure utilizes special instruments to remove the dental plaque, bacteria and mineralized build up, tartar (also called calculus) that develops on the teeth and their roots inside the gum pockets that line the teeth. Thorough removal of this plaque and build up is essential for the health of your teeth.
POCKET REDUCTION
Periodontal disease is treated by attempting to decrease the pockets that form around teeth that harbor harmful bacteria. This can be achieved by the removal of the infected gum tissue and careful sculpting of the underlying bone to decrease the pockets and to make the teeth healthier and easier to clean.
GUIDED TISSUE REGENERATION
Sometimes the periodontal disease process can not only be stopped, but it can reversed! New technologies allow us to use various bone grafts and growth factors to actually regrow the bone and other tissues that were destroyed by the periodontal disease process.
COSMETIC GUM GRAFTING
Sometimes the gums around the teeth can erode away in a process known as recession. If recession occurs, the teeth may become sensitive, weakened and prone to further breakdown, or simply appear unattractive. Gum grafting is a procedure in which gum recession is corrected by replacing the missing gums with either your own healthy gum tissue from another site or with gum tissue from an external source.
COSMETIC GUM RECONTOURING
It is possible to have too much gum tissue. The extra gums make the teeth more difficult to clean and may make the teeth look short, giving the appearance of a ‘gummy smile’. Gum recontouring allows this extra gum tissue and underlying bone to be meticulously sculpted to provide an ideal cosmetic result.
CROWN LENGTHENING
Sometimes a new crown or cap is needed to save a tooth that has had a cavity or root canal. If too much tooth has been destroyed there may not enough supporting tooth structure left to attach the new crown to. The crown lengthening procedure allows access to a small healthy portion of the tooth that was originally below the gums. By exposing more of the existing tooth your restoring dentist will have more structure to attach your new crown to.
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that support artificial teeth. They can be used to replace a single missing tooth, several teeth or a full mouth of missing teeth. Dental implants can replace teeth lost from a variety of reasons including, periodontal (gum) disease, cavities, trauma, or even teeth missing at birth. They are long lasting, never develop cavities or need root canals and most importantly they look and feel like your own natural teeth.
BONE GRAFTING
Just like a house, dental implants require a solid foundation. The foundation for implants is the bone that lies underneath the gum tissue. Unfortunately, sometimes there is not enough bone to ideally place dental implants. However, there are a variety of bone grafting procedures that can be used to grow back sufficient bone so that dental implants can be properly placed.
